Jaret Davis
During National Estate Planning Awareness Week of 2020, prominent Miami lawyer and chairman of the Nicklaus Children’s Hospital Board of Directors, Jaret Davis, challenged friends of Nicklaus Children’s to join him in making a planned gift in honor of the hospital’s 70th anniversary.
Davis said he made his planned gift because of Nicklaus Children’s important 70-year legacy in the community to care for our children and help them lead healthy, happy lives. He believes service, civic awareness and giving back is important for building a stronger Miami.
“I take great pride in the mission of Nicklaus Children’s, the excellence of its reputation and the role we play in moving the hospital forward,” said Davis. “It is my pleasure to make a planned gift and hope you’ll join me in helping more children.”

The Gelber Family
For the Gelbers, giving back is part of their family values. The family of four has supported Nicklaus Children’s Hospital for nearly 10 years, by donating their time and pledging a gift through legacy planning. Gregg first became involved with the hospital as a member of Nicklaus Children’s Young Ambassadors, a group of young professionals that helps fundraise and advocate for patients at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital.
When Gregg and his wife, Carolina, became parents, they realized a deeper connection to the hospital’s vision of creating a healthy future for every child. When their firstborn became ill, they witnessed first-hand the top-notch care that Nicklaus Children’s provides. “We marveled at the world-class facility that happens to be in our own backyard. After our ER visit, it felt natural to give back to the place that gave so much to our family,” says Gregg.
Today, Gregg and Carolina are Diamond Society members at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital Foundation. Gregg, who works in the financial industry, understands the value of a planned gift through an asset like life insurance. “Philanthropy is a cornerstone of our family and the foundation provides a unique opportunity for charitable giving when you consider the everlasting ripples of each success story. As native Miami residents, it gives us great pride to contribute to such an invaluable service to our community at large,” he adds.
They chose to designate their gift to support advancements in cancer care at Nicklaus Children’s in memory of Gregg’s mother.

Frank and Lynn Scaduto
One of the greatest joys for Frank and Lynn Scaduto is spending time with their grandchildren. When it came to planning for their family’s future, the couple felt it was important to care for their grandchildren, in more ways than one.
As newborns, Frank and Lynn’s grandchildren Susan, Alan and Lillian were treated in the Nicklaus Children’s Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Today, they are happy and healthy young adults. In their honor, the couple made a planned gift through their estate last year that named a lobby and several patient rooms at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital. They say the decision to give back in this way was a natural fit.
“Through our planned gift, we wanted to support the future of our precious grandchildren while also promoting the healthy future of other babies who will need care at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital in the years to come,” says Frank. “Nicklaus Children’s Hospital was there for our family, and we felt it was important to pay it forward so more babies can receive the life-saving care they need to live a long, happy life.”

Gladys and Frederick Stewart
Gladys Stewart came to this country from Cuba as a young woman in 1948 to join members of her family and to seek a bright future. At the age of 75, Mrs. Stewart married and she and her husband shared a happy life together. After her husband, Frederick, passed away Mrs. Stewart mentioned to her cousin, Mrs. Josephine Clary, that since she did not have children of her own, she might want to help children and particularly less-fortunate ones. She and Mrs. Clary came for a tour of the hospital and went away moved by what was being done for children in need of medical care. During herlifetime, Mrs. Stewart made two modest gifts, one for $50.00 and the other for $25.00. However, she lived her life by her principles and listened to her heart as well. Upon her death, her cousin, Mrs.Clary, reached out to the Foundation and informed us that Mrs. Stewart had left the hospital $1,250,000 under her will to be used to help needy children who come to Nicklaus Children’s Hospital. We are proud to announce that the pediatric care center has been named the “Gladys M. and Frederick Stewart Pediatric Care Center” in their honor.
Mrs. Stewart’s generosity and kindness of spirit will live on in the many children who receive care atthis center. The entire community of the Miami Children’s Health System, Inc., DBA Nicklaus Children’s Hospital Foundation, will be forever in her debt.
